BHHS Students Write College Essays

A new class at Beverly Hills High School teaches students how to write college admissions essays and appeal rejection letter decisions with the help of USC, UCLA, LMU, and Pepperdine volunteers.

Co-instructed by Dr. Raquel Ramsey, BHHS el coordinator and David Reynaldo, director of College Zoom – Increase Your Admissions Success, the class’s syllabus is based on College Zoom’s personal statement writing coach training program and teaches students how to use persuasive writing strategies that most students won’t learn until they take advanced writing courses in college.

The course, which has been filled to capacity every session, combines college counseling, professional instruction, guided take-home writing assignments and essay workshop days where volunteers from the various universities work with students one-on-one on their writing.

Furthermore, all students who participate in the class get certificates for free personal statement reviews from College Zoom.

“Right now we have the most popular enrichment course in the school. Ten to fifteen students email Dr. Ramsey every time we meet to see if space opens,” said Reynaldo.
