Sophia Salmore, a high school junior at Marlbourough School in Los Angeles, is the founder of "The Seedling Project"—a farm-to-school based program that cultivates citizenship while promoting environmental stewardship.

In its third year of service, "The Seedling Project" educates the community on ecology while constructing and managing the schools Sustainable Garden.

In addition, The Project supports the school's organic cafeteria. Furthermore, the curricular correlation allows the community and students to explore within the realms of food politics and sustainability.

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is in partnership with The Project.

"They view the project as a virtual online "garden" of ideas: a place for planting, gathering and sharing information about school food and garden programs from students and teachers across the country," said Salmore.
