WHOOPING COUGH IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENT

The whooping cough, also known as pertussis, has been widespread in California during 2010 and has now been passed as a California law, Assembly Bill 354, that requires all students grades 7th through 12th to be immunized against pertussis with a Tdap Booster shot. This law requirement will begin for the 2011-2012 school year as students will need to show proof of a Tdap Booster before starting school. Students can also meet this requirement by receiving one dose of the Tdap vaccine on or after their 10th birthday. Requirement becomes effective on July 1, 2011.
